  • He served in the Military
  • His first wife, Camille Doncieux, is included in some of his paintings.
  • He died of lung cancer at the age of 86.

ART MOVEMENT

  • He was involved in Impressionism. (characterized by relatively small, thin, yet visible brush strokes.)
  • Also modern art.(artistic work produced during the period extending roughly from the 1860s to the 1970s.)

ELEMENTS OF ART

  • *Color* There is little color in this art piece. In the flowers there is pink and some purple. In the trees there is green mixed with a little bit of brown.
  • *Shape* There are squares and circular shapes.
  • *Texture*There is lots of this, like the oil paint. If I were to turn the flowers I think they would be soft and fluffy. But I think the trees would be pokey.

OPINION

  • The reason I chose this art piece is because I like the image it is really good and pretty. This image has a lot more pink than the next image. It also looks like there is water in the back ground and there is a reflection in the water from the trees and flowers.

  • *Value* There are shadows in between the trees. The sun is also shining through the trees, just a little bit.
  • *Balance* There is the same amount of color on each side. Like the purple in the flowers is equal to the other side of flowers.
  • *Texture* the purple flowers look fluffy but the green flowers look very pokey if you were to touch them.

OPINION

  • The reason I chose this art work because this picture is pretty. There is different colors like purple, pink and green in the trees. The flowers look pretty but also fluffy.

  • *Pattern* There is a pattern of the color blue. It’s in the sky and blends itself into the lady’s dress.
  • *Color* the color blue is used a lot in this picture but it blends very well.
  • *Shape* There is a lot of circular shapes in this piece. Like in the clouds and in the sky.

OPINION

  • The reason I chose this piece is because there is lots of blue. But also the lady’s little boy looks like he enjoys pictures and he likes nature.

  • *Color* blue is used in almost this whole art piece. But it goes with the theme of the artwork.
  • *Shape* There is not much Shape in this piece. But there is a bit of straight lines.
  • *Space* There is a lot of space in this image. It could use more color and more objects.

OPINION

  • I chose this art piece because it has lots of blue in it. It also has the color from the sun. And also the reflection in the water from the sun.

  • *Emphasis* in this piece this barge sticks out a lot because it is so big and it’s a darker color than everything else.
  • *Balance* the color yellow is balanced very well in the sky and in the reflection of the sky in the water.
  • *Texture*the water looks very warm and very soothing.

OPINION

  • The reason I chose this piece is because the color is pretty. The reflection from the sun into the water looks real pretty.

  • He was born December 2, 1859.
  • Died March 29, 1891.
  • He was born and raised in Paris, France.
  • He also died in Paris, France.

INTERESTING FACTS

  • He was in the Military for a year. From 1879-1880.
  • He died at the age of 31, nobody knows how he died they say it could be meningitis, pneumonia or diphtheria.
  • He had hundred if drawings and sketches.

  • Pointillism(a technique of painting in which small, distinct dots of color are applied in patterns.)
  • Neo-Impressionism(term coined by French art critic Félix Fénéon in 1886 to describe an art movement) founded by George.
  • Divisionism- (the characteristic style in Neo-Impressionist painting defined by the separation of color by dots or patches.)

ART DETAILS

  • *Space* The Space is used equally in this piece. There is space between the people in the picture.
  • *Color* blue and green is used a bit in this piece.
  • *Shape* straight lines are used a lot in this image also. Like in the boats there are triangles for the sail part.

OPINION

  • The reason I chose this piece of art is because the space is used and there’s not too much in the image. The people look very hot and some of them look tired. But the boy that is sitting on the edge with his legs in the water.

  • *Value* this panting is made by using dots with paint.
  • *Emphasis* in the background that building is more noticeable because it is poking out through the trees and it is darker than everything else.
  • *Space* There is a lot of space for the beach and it also blends in with the rest of the land.

OPINION

  • The reason I chose this art piece is because there is a lot of light blue. That color blue is pretty. It also fits the image, it doesn’t look bad just because there’s lots of blue.

Young Woman Powdering Her Face

  • *Color* There is lots of blue in this art piece.
  • *Pattern* There is flower like shapes on the walls behind the lady sitting down.
  • *Value* in the young lady’s body you can see her every little detail. Like her neck, and her chest.

OPINION

  • The reason I chose this art piece is because there is a lot of baby blue and that color is pretty. But you can also tell what the lady is doing, she is powdering her face.

Circus Sideshow

  • *Shape* There are lots of fall like shapes. Like the leaves.
  • *Color* There are lots of crazy colors like pink, red, purple and yellow. Crazy colors for the circus.
  • *Emphasis* the guy in the middle or more noticeable and standing out because he is more closer and he is more bigger than everyone else.

OPINION

  • The reason I chose this art piece is because it looks like they are having some kind of convert and that interests me. There is one man in the front playing his instrument but then the others are in the back for some reason. They also have different colors everywhere but it doesn’t stand out much.

The Circus

1890

ART DETAILS

  • *Space* There is no space because in a circus it is very crowded so that’s why there is no space in this image.
  • *Emphasis* The lady on the horse is more noticeable than anyone because she is in front and she also has a very bright color on, so she stands out a lot.
  • *Shape* There is not much Shape in this art piece maybe because there is not much goin on so There barley any shape.

OPINION

  • The reason I chose this piece is because it is so crowded but it is interesting. There are all kinds of things going on. There is one circus person on a horse and them there is one that is doing back flips on the ground.

PAUL CÉZANNE

BIOGRAPHY

  • Born January 19, 1839.
  • Died October 22, 1906.
  • Born and raised, and also died in his home town, Alix-en Provence, France.

INTERESTING FACTS

  • He was a wealthy man.
  • He died from the dedication of his work, and got caught in a storm, it gave him pneumonia, while working in the field.

ART MOVEMENTS

  • Cubism(an early-20th-century art movement which brought European painting and sculpture historically forward.)
  • Romanticism(an artistic, literary, musical and intellectual movement that originated in Europe.)

THREE SKULLS

(1906)

ART DETAILS

  • *Value* The skulls look like they rotten or they are melting, they look very droopy.
  • *Color* There are a lot of colors just crammed together and it’s hard to tell what it is. But it is colorful.
  • *Shape* the only shape I see is a circular shape of the skulls.

OPINION

  • The reason I chose this piece is because I like the skulls I think it is very cool. They also look like they have been sitting there awhile because they look droopy or like they have melted a bit. But it is kind of hard to tell what the skulls are sitting on.

STILL LIFE WITH PLASTER CAST

ART DETAILS

  • *Value* all I see is random stuff everywhere like there is a random apple on the left side of this piece.
  • *Shape* There are many different kinds of shapes everywhere, like the little boys body,the circular shapes of the food.
  • *Texture* the statue of the boy if you were to touch it the feel of the body would be rough like and may break easily.

OPINION

  • I chose this art piece because it is very unique. If you look you can also see an apple and a pear. You can also see that the little boy has no arm. But he does has legs.

THE LARGE BATHERS

  • *Line* in this piece it looked like the painter was painting in a up and down motion, little at a time because you can see the lines in the art.
  • *Color* blue is used a lot if this piece of art, like in the sky and also in the water.
  • *Texture* if you were to touch the seaweeds they would be fluffy like and maybe some rough parts.

OPINION

  • The reason I chose this art work is because it is pretty and it has a lot of blue. It also looks like it is close to a beach somewhere. The people in it look like they are very hot and they want to get into the water bad.

  • *Color* all the color in this piece is mostly all dark colors.
  • *Value*The writing on the paper is to where you can see it and you can kind of see the mans shadow on the wall.
  • *Line* you can tell when the painter painted this it was in a vertical line over and over again.

OPINION

  • The reasons to why I chose this art piece is because the man is drawn very well. The picture is also interesting, it makes you wonder what he is reading and where he is at. Most of the color in this image are dark and rough looking colors.

HOUSE OF PÉRE LACROIX

  • *Texture*The trees look like they will feel fluffy and very soft.
  • *Color* in the trees there are dark greens and light greens.
  • *Shape* There are triangle like shapes on the roof of the buildings.

OPINION

  • The reason I chose this art piece is because it is a very clear picture. It also has good value. The image is very pretty and has a lot of green in the trees.
