WHY?

  • English Bill of Rights of 1689
  • American Revolution
  • Slave revolts

The Second Amendment was ratified with the original Constitution by a 3/4 state majority.

CONTROVERSIES

  • Gun Control
  • School Shootings
  • Mass Casualty Shootings

SCHOOL SHOOTINGS

  • 1760s: Pontiac's Rebellion School Massacre
  • 5/16/1686: Cokeville Elementary
  • 4/20/99: Columbine High School
  • 3/21/05: Red Lake Massacre
  • 10/2/06: Amish School Shooting

SCHOOL SHOOTINGS

  • 4/16/07: Virginia Tech Massacre
  • 2/14/08: University of Northern Illinois
  • 2/27/12: Chardon High School
  • 12/14/12: Sandy Hook Elementary

I believe this amendment being passed has changed American culture. Many people own guns legally. Yet many others own them illegally and use them in ways that are not supported by the Constitution and they think that it's their Constitutional right to own the weapon.

The Second Amendment created more problems than it solved.

COURT CASES

  • McDonald v. Chicago
  • District of Columbia v. Heller
  • U.S. v. Cruikshank (1876)
