Checks and Balances

  • Three branches: Legislative, Judicial, Executive
  • Branches do not all hold power
  • Able to limit power of other branches  

The Branches

  • Legislative: Introduce a bill
  • Executive: Veto or Approve a bill
  • Judicial: Oversees Court system 

state of the Union

  • Location: House Chamber 
  • Every January or February
  • Proposing new agenda for the nation

Bill Process

  • Inspiration: Delegate and constituents from promises
  • Introducing: Put into the hopper during session
  • Then goes to the Committee 
  • Consideration/Debate: Propose and amend the bill
  • Voting occurs through voice, division, or recorded

Presidential veto

  • 1o days to decide 
  • regular veto: qualified negative veto  
  • Pocket veto: not to be overridden 
  • Part of Executive Branch 

Supreme court

  • Decides whether Constitutional or not
  • Either struck down or passed through 
  • Part of the Judicial Branch
