The animal cell nucleus is the cell's center and is highly specialized. It serves two major functions: storing DNA and coordinating the cell's activities. These activities include metabolism, protein synthesis, and reproduction.
The nucleus makes up 10% of a cell's volume and is the most dominant feature. Nuclear material consists of unstructured DNA called chromatin, which will be used to form chromosomes during cell division. The nucleus also contains the nucleoli so, an organelle that builds ribosomes.
