Rocks-
A rock is a combination of one or more minerals or organic matter

How are rocks classified?

Number 1-
Mineral composition
The mineral and organic matter a rock contains

Number 2-
Texture

IGNEOUS ROCK

FORMED WHEN HOT MAGMA COOLS INTO SOLID ROCK

Intrusive igneous rocks-
When magma intrudes surrounding rock below
Example- granite

Extrusive Igneous Rock-
Forms when magma erupts onto earths surface
Example- basalt

SEDIMENTARY

OCCUR AT THE EARTHS SURFACE THROUGH WEATHERING AND EROSION

Number 1-
Clastic Sedimentary
Forms when sediments are buried, compacted, and cemented together by Calcite or Quartz
Example- sandstone

Number 2-
Chemical Sedimentary
Forms when water evaporates and the dissolved minerals get left behind
Example- halite

Number 3-
Organic Sedimentary
Forms from the fossils of plants and animals
Example- coal

METAMORPHIC ROCKS

FORMS WHEN A ROCK IS EXPOSED TO HIGH TEMPERATURE

Number 1-
Foilated Metamorphic
When mineral grains are arranged in planes
Example- slate

Number 2-
Nonfoilated Metamorphic
When minerals don't have mineral grains that are aligned in planes
Example- marble
