WHat is a 3rd degree burn?
A third degree burn is a burn that damages all three layers of the skin, and sometimes the tissue below the skin.

Symptoms include black or white charred skin; may be temporarily numb due to damaged nerves in the skin.

Most common treatments:
Removing dead skin and tissue from the burned area
IV fluids containing electrolytes
Antibiotic ointments or cream
Pain medication (if not the worst case)

Skin Grafting:
To take a piece of unburned skin which is surgically removed and then taken to cover the burned area
Performed in the operating room

EMERGENCY SERVICES MAY...
Give oxygen to help the person breathe
They may also be wrapped in dry bandages
Again... dead skin may be surgically removed from the burned/ charred area

At home trEatments include:
Take pain medication
Apply bandages and change out every two to three times a day
Keep burned area dry
Go to the doctor and seek emergency help
