MALARIA

  • Caused by plasmodium
  • Transmitted by mosquitos
  • Most common in lower developed countries
  • Similar symptoms to the Flu
  • Can be passed from mother to baby

GIARDIASIS

  • Caused by Giardia
  • Infection of the intestines
  • Transmitted by contact with infected, unclean water, muskrats, and beavers
  • Symptoms: Diarrhea, stomach cramps, gas, and nausea
  • Most common in lower developed countries

AFRICAN TRYPANOSOMIASIS (SLEEPING SICKNESS)

  • Caused by Trypanosoma
  • Transmitted by African tsetse fly, can be given from mother to baby
  • Symptoms: bite turns red, fever, severe headaches, irritability,
  • Extreme fatigure, swollen lymph nodes, and aching muscle/joints
  • Fatal if not treated, death in weeks - months

AMOEBIC DYSENTERY

  • Caused by Entamoeba histolytica
  • Infection of intestines (bowels)
  • Symptoms: dirrahea, cramps, fatigue, gassy, fever, and vomitting
  • Get it from contaminated drinks or foods, contact with infected
  • Mostly found in developing countries (due to poor sanitation)
