LIMITED WARS

FALKLAND/MAlINAS

• Between British & Argentina over islands off coast of Argentina
• Began on April 2nd 1982 lasted 2 months
• Argentina claimed island since 1820
• British occupied and controlled islands from1833

CAUSES OF THE WAR IN ISLANDS

• British wanted to give land back, but the people disagreed
• The 1800 Britains who lived there didn't want to be under Argentine Rule
• They fought over these islands for no significant reason, mainly for publicity stunts between rulers of each party
• Argentina invades the Falklands by setting up a flag on South Georgia.
• Air battle began on May 1st 1982; significant reason why the British won the war.

CHINESE CIVIL WAR

• Involved GMD (Guomindang) - Nationalist Party
• Involved CCP (Chinese Communist Party - Republicans
• First attack in Shanghai - "White Terror" April 1927
• CCP dismantled GMD with well developed tactics and ideas in combat, which is why China is a key communist party in Cold War
• War lasted 1927 to 1949 in a two phase war

CHINESE CIVIL WAR

• Guerrilla warfare (mostly used - mainly used by CCP)
• Long March: October 1933 - October 1935

CAUSE OF CHINESE CIVIL WAR

• Difference of ideologies between the two parties.
• They were unified in the prior aim to eliminate warlords to unify China
• But that ended when Both had separate ideas on how to shape China’s future.

SPANISH CIVIL WAR

• Involved two parties of Spain
• One party was Anti-Communist (Nationalists)
• Other party was Communist (Republican)
• Different economic views/beliefs

CAUSES OF SPANISH CIVIL WAR

• Economic issues; too dependent on agriculture & agricultural workers
• Weak government; separated by Liberals and conservatives
• No religious freedom
• Division between rich and poor; expansion was limited
• Left and right republic had diff. visions for Spain's future

CAUSES OF SPANISH CIVIL WAR

• Left and right followed diff. systems
• Left followed Soviet system
• Right followed Nazi system

GULF WAR

• War between Iraq and U.S
• Suddam accuses Kuwait of stealing $2bill of oil from Rumila oil field
• On August 2nd Iraq invades Kuwait
• August 8th u.s troops were being sent to Iraq to carry out operation desert shield which was later named operation Desert storm.

CAUSES PRACTICES & AFFECTS

• Desert storm campaign was carried out in 2 parts
• 1st. Series of bombing attacks on Baghdad & military targets
• 2nd. On February 24th a ground campaign against Iraq army.
• Within 4 days Iraqis were driven out of Kuwait.

HOW THESE WARS WERE LIMITED

• Most or all these wars were short and within the land where they were initiated
• Majority of these wars didn't involve citizens and weren't too much affected
• No heavy artillery was used, no atomic weapons were put to use and had small amount of supplies
