PRESENTATION OUTLINE

CONOR SAMMY CHRISTIAN

Whilst I alone did call upon thy aid,

Metaphor to inspiration

"When I was the only writer who looked to you for help"

MY VERSE ALONE HAD ALL THY GENTLE GRACE;

When his poetry was the only poetry of that kind it was special

But now my gracious numbers are decayed,

But now his poetry isn't as special and there is another writer

AND MY SICK MUSE DOTH GIVE AN OTHER PLACE.

Another poet is writing about the same things as him and is "stealing his thunder"

I grant, sweet love, thy lovely argument

His words were stolen and they were used as the theifs words

Deserves the travail of a worthier pen;

And found it in thy cheek: he can afford

NO PRAISE TO THEE, BUT WHAT IN THEE DOTH LIVE.

Then thank him not for that which he doth say,

Since what he owes thee, thou thyself dost pay.
