Lo as a careful housewife




runs to catch

A housewife is trying to catch something.

One of her feathered




creatures broke away

What the housewife is trying to catch is a chicken that escaped.

Sets down her babe, and




makes all swift dispatch

She sets down her child to chase after the chicken.

In pursuit of the thing she




would have stay

She is running after her chicken because it's her prized possession

Whilst her neglected child





holds her in chase

Her child wants her attention while she is chasing the chicken.

Cries to catch her whose




busy care is bent

Because the mother abandoned her child to chase after the chicken, her child is upset.

While the child chases her mother

Kiss me, be kind
