East China Sea

  • Has an area of 249,000 sq. miles
  • Is part of the Pacific Ocean
  • Borders the East Asian midland
  • Yangtze River separates it from the Yellow Sea
  • Most of the shelf dates back 300 million years

GOBI DESERT

  • Covers parts of China and Mongolia
  • Fifth largest desert in the world
  • Home to the first ever found fossilized dinosaur egg
  • Marco Polo encountered its fabled cities
  • It's expansion threatens human habitation

YELLOW SEA

  • North of the East China Sea
  • Measures about 600 miles
  • Famous for its fishing grounds
  • Its sea floor slopes
  • Has very cold, dry winters & wet, warm summers

WEST RIVER ( XI JANG)

  • Western tributary of the Pearl River
  • Contains over 380 freshwater fish
  • Commercial waterway of Southern China
  • Navigable for its entire length
  • Largest of the Pearl River's tributaries

HIMALAYA MOUNTAINS

  • Include the highest mountains in the world
  • Has more than 110 peaks rising to elevations of 24,00 ft.
  • Have a profound significance to the people of South Asia
  • Form the northern border of the Indian subcontinent
  • Mt. Everest is located in the Himalayas
