THE 5 PRINCIPLES OF DEMOCRACY

EGALITARIANISM

  • This refers to the doctrine that all people are equal and deserve equal rights and opportunities.
  • The 14th and 19th amendment grant equal rights to gender and race.
  • Equality played an important role in wars where women weren’t allowed to participate until the Second World War and African Americans weren’t allowed until the Second World War as well.

  • The Montgomery bus boycott was an example of peaceful protest in order to obtain rights and abolish the “seperate but equal” clause .
  • Cesar Chavez held a workers movement to get Hispanics paid for the work they did farming.

  • The workers union known as the AFL (American Federation for Labor) was aimed toward safe working conditions and protecting rights of getting paid equally for work .
  • This began so workers could fight for better wages, hours and safer working conditions.Union negotiations hold more accountability over non union negotiations

LIBERTY

  • The declaration of independence granted the United States its first sign of liberty as it’s own nation under its own rule.This is when France gave the United States “Lady Liberty” in celebration of the United States’ new found freedom.
