WHY 5SOS IS NOT A BOY BAND
- They play their OWN instruments
- They write their own songs
- Aren't a dance group
- Their lyrics are not always about love, heartbreak, "the one that got away" (especially when listening to SGFG)
- They write songs that are more geared towards a rock/punk sound rather than pop
WHY SHOULD YOU LISTEN TO 5SOS?
- They write about (and even deal with) issues that are relevant to the youth (depression, self esteem problems, feeling alone, misfit, starting fresh, expressing yourself, abandonment, breakups, fighting parents, etc)
- They are genuine people who write their own material and play their own instruments
- Each of their songs is unique from the one before it
- The band is a prime example of how dreaming hard enough and working hard can actually pay off
LYRIC INTERPRETATION
- To show that their songs aren't repetitive, and have underlying messages, we are going to play four songs from SGFG
- During each section of the songs, write down your opinion/what you take away from what you just heard
2ND SONG: PERMANENT VACATION
3RD SONG: JET BLACK HEART
4TH SONG: OUTER SPACE/CARRY ON
WHY ARE THEY SO IMPORTANT TODAY?
- They are bringing back the pop punk sound of the 90s/early 2000s to the younger generation
- Their songs are not always about breaking up and don't repeat the same three words
- Their music brings people together (5SOSfam)
- Their music is making other "underground" pop-punk bands (All Time Low, Mayday Parade, A Day to Remember) more appealing to the younger fan base
