THE 5 SENSES
BY: HUNT AND SKYLAR
2.
THE NERVOUS SYSTEM
The nervous system is a network of nerve cells that transmit nerve impulses.
It consists of the brain, spinal cord, sensory organs, & all of the nerves that connect them to the body.
Central nervous system is made up of the brain & spinal cord.
Peripheral nervous system is made up of all the nerves outside of the central nervous system.
3.
WHY IS THE NERVOUS SYSTEM IMPORTANT?
The nervous system tells our body when something occurs.
It helps the 5 senses occur.

THE 5 SENSES
The 5 senses are sight, taste, smell, touch, & hear.
They are essential to everyday living.
They let your brain know what is going on around you.
They warn you during danger.
7.
SIGHT
Sight helps us see where we are going.
Sight is the most important sense.
Sight helps us gather light.
Images are sent upside down, but our brain makes sense of what it receives by turning it right side up.
The brain uses the images from 2 eyes to create a 3D image.
8.
TASTE
Taste comes from the taste buds on our tongue.
The tongue is able to taste 4 flavors: salty, sweet, sour, & bitter.
It picks up texture and temperature in your food.
Taste buds send a signal to our brain to determine if our food is safe.
9.
SMELL
Our sense of smell is able to identify 7 sensations: camphor, musk, flower, mint, ether, acrid, and putrid.
Smell is important to be able to taste.
We never experience the same smell twice.
Dogs have the strongest sense of smell.
