SETTTING

  • The place and time of a story.
  • Ex: Z boys is based in the Dogtown area of Los Angeles around the early 1970's.

CONFLICT

  • The main problem the protagonist faces in the story.
  • Ex: in the short story, "The Most Dangerous Game", Rainsford is being hunted by a wild man, General Zaroff.

CHARACTER

  • The combination of qualities and features that distinguishes one person, group, or thing from another.
  • Ex: I can play drums and got a curly Afro. My little sister has a super beautiful smile and she can sing.

POINT OF VIEW

  • 1st: the thoughts and words come from a narrator who is a character in the story.
  • 2nd: the narrator refers to the reader as "you".
  • 3rd: the narrator is a ghost bassically, and he conveys the story without being involved or a character.

PLOT

  • Exposition: where the characters are introduced to the story and how they relate with one another.
  • Rising action: the problem or conflict the protagonist runs into.
  • Climax: the turning point of the story or main action of it.
  • Falling action: where all the loose ends to the conflict are finally being tied up.
  • Resolution: where the story's mysterys and conflicts are finally solved.

  • The moral and overall summing up of the story.
