WHAT IS IT?

First it taked placed between 440mya and it continued on 370mya, 245mya, 210mya, and the last one ooccuredn 65mya.
Also 99% of species where whiped out.

Mayor causes where volcano eruption, climate change, global causes

MASS EXTINCTION

THERE IS NO LONGER THE SPECIES FOUND.

BACKGROUND EXTINCTION

NATURAL EVENT OF EVOLUTION AND BECAUSE OF NATURAL CAUSES.

EXTRIPATION

THE RATE OF POPULATION OF A SPECIES DECREASES.

We are loosing 30,000 species per year.

FIRST PHASE

IT BEGAN WHEN HUMANS DISPERSED A 100,000 YEARS AGO.

SECOND PHASE

WHEN HUMANS STARTED AGRICULTURE FOR THEIR OWN BENEFITS.

Humans caused ecosystem stress and the species destruction by doing activities like:

Transformation of landscape

BUILDING AND CREATING THINGS IN THE NATURE.

OVER EXPLOTATION OF SPECIES
humans ignores the carrying capacity of the ecosystem because they used the animals for their own needs.

POLLUTION
all the contained air humans create is damaging the ozone layer and infecting pure nature and making it die.

INVASIVE SPECIES
It affects the food web because there will be new animals with different diets from the local ones. Also because the new species can be stronger and fight for food and space. They are invasive because humans where the one who brought them.

Think about mass extinction as a house of cards or a snowball effect because the loss of a few species that are key parts to a ecosystem, may cause more damage in the way of loosing more species that are important.

WORLD WILD LIFE

Untitled Slide

  • One of the most famus institutions.
  • Rescue wild animals, and protects them.
  • The goverment enforce them.

There are other important institutions like: Department of Natural Resources, Marine Mammal Protection, Fish and Wildlife Service and ESA.

To end the threat of endangered rhinos, elephants, tigers, and more. And to stop trafficking them the WWF worked solutions, did meetings and asked for help from the government to make it stop. The efforts elevated and made a difference.

In the past when mass extinction happened, new species appeared and more evolved.

DO YOU KNOW HOW TO MAKE MASS EXTINCTION TO SLOW DOWN?

  • Leave other soecies alone.
  • Do not over populate.
  • Take care of the planet.

PANDAS

Because of the large size they don't have predators but snow leopards do attack the baby pandas.

Pandas population has decreased over 50% in the past two years. There are less than 1600 pandas.

This happens because humans are destroying their habitats by fragments and letting them travel to other parts. Also because of bamboo flowering and low reproduction rate.

Due to the fact that pandas as in danger of extinction they are 980 captive, reproduction is the only way of saving pandas, but they have a low rate of reproduction so it is going to be difficult to save this species.

SABER TOOTH CAT

They where from the Cenozoic era, they where carnivores, they hunted and went extinct 10,000 years ago. They disappear because of climate change, degenerative diseases and it became really hard to find prays.

JAGUARS

They live in the rain forest. They are swimmers, climbers and need the rivers to survive. They are becoming extinct because of deforestation, climate changes, illegal wildlife trade, oil and gas development, over fishing and pollution.

SCIENTIST WANTS TO BRING EXTINCT ANIMALS

Scientists are trying to bring some extinct animals back to life with the propose of benefits to the ecosystem and to have more biodiversity.

For example they wouldn't bring back a dinosaur because it would make big damages, wouldn't benefit and they wouldn't adapt.
