Romulus (753- 715 BC)

Facts on Romulus

  • He killed his brother for jumping over the wall they were building for their city
  • He was the son of Mars
  • They were nursed by a she wolf until a shepherd found him and his brother
  • His Remus convinced Romulus to go back and claim his throne
  • Romulus and Remus defeated Amulius and give Numitor back his throne

Numa Pompilius (715 - 673 BC)

Numa Pompilius

  • He built the Temple of Janus
  • He established the boundaries of Rome
  • Credit for the calendar to move 12 months instead of 10 months
  • Credit for established a religion and also created a priesthood
  • He kept the doors open when they had war but closed the doors when there was peace

Tullius Hostilius (673-641 BC)

  • Numa was a very hostile person
  • He defeated the Albans and destoryed the Alba Longa (the legand says)
  • Credit for building the Curia Hostilia (The picture I choose for this king)
  • Tried to turn to religion after he was faced with the plague
  • The outcome of turning to religion ritual was struck with lightning

Ancus Marcius (641-616BC)

  • Credit for establish the port Ostia
  • Credit for creating the manner which lead the Romans to declare war
  • Credit to build the first Aqueduct
  • Defeated the Old Latins(If you didn't join Rome with Tatuis and Romulus)
  • Added the hilld of Aventine and Janiculum which were inside the city's wall

Tarquinius Priscus(616-579BC)

Tarquinius Priscus

  • He added 100 less wealthy noble seats to the Senate
  • He might have started the Temple of Lutiper Captolinus
  • He was assassinated by sons of Ancus Marius
  • His wife (Tanaquil) and his self first came to Rome and an eagle took his hat of his head and he replaced it
  • He was (very honest) when he convinced the Sons of Ancus Marcius to go hunting
  • He was an Etruscan

Servius Tullius (579-535BC)

Servius Tullius

  • Highest ranking centuries who got to vote first and thus their vote was worth more
  • He added the hills of Quirnal, Viminal and Esquiline to Rome
  • Credit to build the first wall called the Servian Walls
  • When Tarquinius Superbus was assassinated he said he wanted Servius Tullius to be treated like a king
  • First census numbered at 80,000 capable of bearing arms

Tarquinius Superbus

  • His wife (Tullia) was the daughter of Servius Tullius had convinced Tarquinius to detrone him
  • Servius was killed in the streets
  • Went to the Senate and physically threw out the elderly king
  • Either finished or built the Temple of Lupiter Capitolinus or Lupiter Optimus Maximus
  • Made Rome the head of the Latin Legue
