PRESENTATION OUTLINE

RETINAL DETACHMENT

BY:AMAAN JIWANI

THE SYMPTOMS

  • Eye floaters accompanied by eye flashes
  • Sudden onset of blurred vision
  • Shadows or blind spots in the field of vision

WHAT CAUSES THIS?

  • Shrinkage of the gel-like material that fills the inside of your eye.
  • An injury
  • Advanced diabetes
  • An inflammatory eye disorder

HOW WOULD IT LOOK WITH A DETACHED RETINA?

  • You would see double
  • You would be in a lot of pain
  • You become basically blind in that eye
  • You can "feel" the redness

HOW IS IT TREATED?

  • The eye doctor injects a bubble of gas into the eye.
  • You are positioned so the gas bubble goes up against the hole
  • It then pushes the retina back into place.
  • The doctor will use a laser to permanently seal the hole.
