Introduction to Islam
Islam is a monotheistic religion. It was founded by Muhammad when the Angel Gabriel came to him at Mt. Hira. The Angel Gabriel told him that he was the messager of God. Muhammad preached the message of God. The message was, there is no god except God and that he was the messenger of God. A small group of followers developed in Mekkah called Muslims. Over the next 22 years, Muhammad taught others to practice compassion, honesty, justice, and other teachings revealed to him by the Angel Gabriel. The Muslims wrote these teachings down in a book called the Qur'an. Muhammad was criticized and called a liar when preaching monotheism to a polytheistic society.
