PRESENTATION OUTLINE

A Dream Within A Dream

Edgar Allan Poe/Nick Cho

End Rhyme

  • "O God!can I not grasp"Them with a tighter clasp"
  • These two lines are end rhymes because dream rhymes with seem.
  • These two lines are saying that the narrator is trying to grip it tighter.
  • These two lines are a small description of him seeing things in a dream.

Alliteration

  • "You are not wrong, who deem."
  • The words wrong and who both have the "w" sound.
  • This is part of the message of the narrator leaving.
  • The narrator is saying goodbye to the love one last time.
  • Also, this line is saying that people who are judging aren't wrong.

Metaphor

  • "Yet if hope has flown away"
  • This sentence is comparing the word hope to a thing.
  • The thing is something that is flying and hope is being compared.
  • These two things are unlike factors that make up metaphors.

Hyperbole

  • "Of a surf-tormented shore."
  • This is exaggerating too much and isn't true.
  • A shore isn't actually tormented by the surfing.
  • This is adding more emphasis to the second stanza

Repetition

  • "While I weep-while I weep"
  • The phrase is repeated twice because it is to add an effect.
  • The narrator is saying that he is weeping in the beach.
