POVERTY WOULD GO FROM THIS

TO THIS

EXPERTS MAY ARGUE

  • "The majority of poor Americans do not work at all for any wage, so raising the minimum wage does not help them." -James Sherk

HOWEVER

  • The fact is that there are poor Americans working.
  • Those families have to work multiple jobs just to barely get by.

AMERICANS COULD JUST GET GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE

  • Although this may be true the surplus of families needing these programs, just shows how low wages are affecting families.
  • Families are struggling, turning to last resorts to try and scrape by.

AMERICANS ARE DEPENDENT ON THESE WAGES

  • "Twenty percent of Americans work for a 10.65/hour wage, with 40 hours a week, that amounts to less than $22,314, the poverty level for a family of four." -CNN

Conclusion

  • Raising the federal minimum wage over the next few years would be an important first step in helping the working poor climb out of poverty, while injecting more money into the economy.
