Rubik Goldmark taught him composition
He wrote over 60 articles and essays as well as five books.
At 15 he decided to become a composer

SUCCESSES
Wrote three ballets based off of American folk music
In 1935 was his most popular and most successful year.
In the 1950s he did less composing and more conducting.
He received more than 30 honorary degrees.
