PRESENTATION OUTLINE

I-Q

CHAPTERS 5-8

I is for impressed. Pony and Johnny are impressed when they read about southern gentleman. Johnny thinks that Dally is a hero. He puts others needs before his own. Pony finally realized why Johnny views Dally as a hero. Pony doesn't see Dally as a hero, because he judges him on the bad things he's done. Johnny admires the good parts about him.

J is for Johnny. Johnny decides to turn himself in to the police. Dally then reveals how much he cares for Johnny by freaking out about Johnny being hardened in jail. On the way back to town, the church they had been hiding in burned down, and Johnny saves the kids in the church. This makes Johnny happy, because he feels like he is finally needed.

K is for kid. Johnny is still a kid when he has his accident. He used to dream of killing himself. Now, when he is so close to death, he wants to live. There are so many things he'll never get to do. He regrets not living more when he could.

L is for love. When Pony is at the hospital waiting to see if Johnny and Dally are okay, Darry and Soda come to the hospital, and both Soda and Darry started to cry. They tell Pony about how little sleep they had gotten because they were worried. That was when Pony realized he was loved.

M is for Mustang. Randy drives a blue mustang. He stopped to talk to Pony about the rumble. He tells Pony that he wasn't going, because he was sick of fighting. He didn't see the point of fighting, no one ever won. They would still have to return to their problems the next day. So Randy refused to fight in
the rumble.

N is for newspaper. Johnny, Pony, and Dally are in the newspaper the day after the church burns down. Johnny was glad to know that his name would be remembered in a good way. However, Pony was almost bugged that the caption said Delinquents Turn Heroes! Pony feels he is not a delinquent. Just because they were greasers, doesn't mean they were bad.

O is for obligated. The gang feels obligated to avenge Johnny. They want to beat the Socs into the ground. They want the Socs to suffer. Pony however, feels that nothing good is going to come from the rumble, he feels sick all day, like something awful is going to happen.

P is for prized possession. Two Bit's most prized possession was his black handled switch blade. However, when Dally asked for it, Two Bit just handed it over. This proves how much the gang loves and respects Dally, and each other. They were always there for each other.

Q is for quizzical. The doctors are quizzical about whether Johnny will survive or not. They know that he'll never get to walk again. This saddens Johnny because he knows that now he will have to spend his days in his house. This means he will always have to be in the presence of a mother that views him as a money sucker, and an abusive, alcoholic father.
