The Americans were the ones that had to fight against the British to get freedom from them. They were from the thirteen colonies. The Americans got the French to fight with them against the British.

The colonies were the areas that the British had control on. The thirteen colonies were New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia.
