A IS FOR JOHN ADAMS

  • John Adams was the key leader of the Continental congress, during the Revolution.
  • John also served in Europe as a Ambassador.
  • John was the second president of the United States.

B IS FOR BOSTON MASSACRE

  • Tension was brewing between Boston and the British soldiers. It first started in 1768 when the British arrived.
  • Fist fights between the colonists and the British were very common on the streets.
  • A man named John Adams cousin of Samuel Adams, like Samuel John did not like the British in Boston.
  • The "Old state house" where the Boston massacre happened in front of is still standing today with just a few tweak.

C IS FOR LEXINGTON AND CONCORD

  • April 18 1775, about 700 British soldiers marched from Boston.
  • They were heading to Concord. 20 miles northwest from Boston
  • Militias had been storing weapons in Concord.

D IS FOR DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE

  • Thomas Jefferson explained why the American colonies must declare independence from the British.
  • Jefferson explained that the people of our land all had "unalienable rights", meaning those rights that just can just not be taken away.
  • Next the Declaration said that if the government were to abuse the colonists, the colonists were allowed to create a new government.

E IS FOR ETHAN ALLEN

  • Ethan was known for his strength and bravery.
  • Where Allen lived he was known for wrestling bears, and mountain lions.
  • Allen was also a outspoken patriot.

F IS FOR FIRST CONTINENTAL CONGRESS

  • September 1774 representatives from every colony except for Georgia, met a the first Continental congress in Philadelphia.
  • George Washington represented Virginia at the meeting.
  • George also fought the British during the French and Indian war.

G IS FOR KING GEORGE III

  • King George supported the idea of taxing the colonists.
  • Parliament supported the idea too.
  • To the British it seemed fair, but to the American colonists the British solders will be benefited by the taxes.

H IS FOR JOHN HANCOCK

  • Like Adams Hancock was a leader in Boston.
  • Both men were staying in Lexington, a town located between Boston and concord.

I IS FOR INTOLERBLE ACTS

  • The intolerable acts were the Acts that punished Boston for e tea party.
  • Colonists were forced to feed, and house the British when then knocked on their door.
  • Bostons port was closed, therefore ships were not allowed to dock until colonist got the money for the tea that they destroyed.

J IS FOR THOMAS JEFFERSON

  • Thomas was 33 when he was a lawyer in Virginia.
  • Jefferson served in the House of Burgesses.
  • He served in the House of Burgesses before he joined the Continental congress in 1775.

K IS FOR HENRY KNOK

  • Washington sent Knox to go and retrieve the cannons that the British stole.
  • Some of the guns were weighting over 5,000 pounds.
  • Knox and his men built sled and hooked up their horses so the horses could drag the cannons on the sled over the winter snow.

L IS FOR BATTLE OF LEXINGTON

  • At 5:00 pm on April 19 sixteen year old William Diamond began to beat his drum.
  • That was their way of saying "Lexington minuet men come to running".
  • 70 men including 12 teenagers and 3 over 60 years old gathered .

M IS FOR MASSACHUSETTS BAY COLONY

  • The puritans colony was called the Massachusetts bay colony
  • The puritans were looking for a place to build their settlement.
  • The decided to go with the bay, they named this place Boston.

N IS FOR NORTH CAROLINA

  • North Carolina was originated in 1729
  • One of the early leaders was William Berkeley
  • One of the main reasons for founding is because if the farming.
  • North Carolina was also one of the first 13 colonies.

O IS FOR OHIO RIVER VALLEY

  • Washington and his men crossed the Appalachia mountains and entered the Ohio river valley
  • The problem was that other groups had already claimed the land.
  • Very powerful Native American tribes lived there already.

P IS FOR PARLIAMENT

  • King George III supported the idea of taxing the colonists.
  • As well as all the members of parliament
  • To them taxes seemed fair, but to the colonists they just thought that the British soldiers were being benefitted by their taxes.

Q IS FOR QUAKERS

  • Quakers were the group who opposed to the war.
  • Then also believed that people had the freedom to worship God without having to go to church.

R IS FOR PAUL REVERE

  • Paul was known for his fast rides.
  • He could ride from Boston to New York and back in less than a week.

S IS FOR BATTLE OF SARATOGA

  • Here at Saratoga the Americans made up a plan to stop the British advance in their plan
  • 2 different Army's attacked Saratoga, this was known as the battle of Saratoga

T IS FOR TAXES

  • There have been different taxes throughout the years one was when the British placed a tax on tea.
  • Find reason for that is because the Americans went onto the ship and dumbed hundreds of thousands of gallons of tea into the lake.

U IS FOR UNITED STATES

  • At the time of all the wars and everything there were only 13 colony's.
  • There were also places like Boston and new Hapsburg.

V IS FOR VALLEY FORGE

  • Washington a do his troops marched up to valley forge and set up cam for the winter.
  • Washington knew there were going to be some struggles throughout the winter.
  • They were deadly with the amount of warm clothing then had and most of the men didn't even have shoes. The left a trail of blood after they marched.

W IS FOR MARTHA WASHINGTON

  • Martha Washington was George washington's wife.
  • Martha often traveled with the army.
  • She spent mornings cooking.

Y IS FOR BATTLE OF YOURKTOWN

  • The American revolution entered it's 6th yea in 1780.
  • Patriots were now under the com and of general Nathanael Greene.
  • Greenes strategy was to use all of his resources including the land to his advantage.

X IS FOR PETER JOHN ZENGER

  • Peter started new Yorks first independent news paper.
  • He was arrested for critical of new yorks governor.
