B:BIBLE:THE PURITANS BELIEVED THAT THE BIBLE APPLIED TO EVERYDAY LIFE.This is shown in Bradford's "Of Plymouth Plantation" .

C-Couplets:rhyming couplets are used in Anne Bradstreet's "In the Burning of my House". The ending couplet tells the main theme of the story.

E-Everlasting:The last 2 lines of Bradstreet's "To My a Dear and Loving Husband" mean that the love that Bradstreet and her husband share are everlasting

Internal rhyme:rhyming words placed within a line. Ex. A dog on a log

J- Jonathan Edwards:philosopher and theologian. Wrote "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" as a sermon to frighten his audience away from sinning by using graphic imagery to depict hell.

K- Kismet:Puritans believed in predestination. The belief that God has already chosen if you were going to heaven or hell.

L-Lyric:short poem expressing thoughts and feelings of a single speaker.

M-Money:Money was important to the Puritans because they saw it as a sign of being chosen by God but not lazy.

O- onomatopia:Use of words to imitate sounds. Ex. Crash,bang

P- Plymouth:Where the Puritans landed in America. "Of Plymouth Plantation" tells the story of the Puritan's lives in Plymouth.

R-Repetition:using the same word or phrase. Edward's repeats you and your in "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" to show that you,but not him,will be going to hell for sinning

S-Sin: What Edwards is trying to turn his audience against in his sermon "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God"

T- Title:The titles help the readers gain a better understanding about what they are reading. The selections that we read had titles that described what the main point of the selection was.

U-Unrivaled: The Puritans felt that they were the best religion. They believed that they lived on the "city on a hill" (the Massachusettes Bay Colony).

V-Values: The Puritans had 3 main values. Faith-providence,predestination-religious typology(everything means something),chosen people,bible applied to life,2.Community,3.Hard work

W-Woods: The Puritans afraid of the woods because that is where the Natives and the devil lived
