What was his job?
Navigator found Tasmania in 1642 and died in Jakarta 1659.
What was the significant event he was involved In

He found Tasmania in 1642. He also found some islands in New Zealand. He sailed for the indies taking his wife with him. It was named Van
Diemans land and after called Tasmania in Abel Tasman's name.
Why was the event significant?
It was significant because people were starting to find Australia like Willem Janzoon. Who was a Spanish navigator who also found a part of Australia.

On Tasmania and New Zealand.
On the Tasman panintular they heard sounds like the devil witch is why we have the Tasmanian Devil they also heard people in the bush they were aborigonal people. Then they traveled to the east and found New Zealand. Then north to Fiji and back around to Spain.
