Aboriginal Culture

Culture

  • Location: Australia, majority located in Queensland.

Time

  • Began back in 3800 BC.
  • They still exist today.

Cosomogony

  • Bandicoots, an Aboriginal clan, believed in Dreamtime. Ka-Ro-Ra, their creator god, dreamed of living creatures, such as Bandicoots and Bull-Roarers that turned into humans that he called his sons. Once their only food source, Bandicoots, ran out he sent his sons on a mission to find more food. T-jen-ter-ama, one of Ka-Ro-Ra's many sons, returned from his trip as the very first kangaroo.

COSMOGONY 2

  • T-jen-ter-ama, one of Ka-Ro-Ra's many sons, returned from his trip as the very first kangaroo. A hole where Ka-Ro-Ra slept started leaking honey to the point where it engulfed the entire land of Il-ba-lint-ja. Then all at once the honey and all of his sons got swept underground. Ka-Ro-Ra was left all alone to dream again.

Interesting fact

  • Aboriginals believed in Dreamtime, where their god falls asleep and dreams of the world, living creatures, or both.

Classification

  • Ex Nihilo - Where the God falls asleep and dreams of how the world or people came into existence.

Mamaragan

  • Mamaragan was a god that rode on a thundercloud and threw bolts of lightning. He beat stones together, making rain, which gave life to all living things.
  • When the weather was nice he lived in a puddle...

YHI

  • Goddess of light and creator goddess. She gave birth to the moon to replace the sun so people would no longer be afraid at night. She created the first man ,so he wouldn't be lonely, she created a women from a flower stalk.

Ka-Ro-Ra

  • A very lonely god that dreams up living creatures so he wouldn't be alone anymore.
  • The creator god according to the Bandicoot clan

Afterlife

  • Aboriginal tribes hold ceremonies for the dead to ensure that the person's soul returns to its birth place so it can be reborn. To ensure this, the tribe members paint themselves white and cut their own bodies to show remorse for their loss.

Afterlife 2

  • Their are two different burials. A primary burial is where the put the body on an elevated platform of sticks and branches for several months until the flesh is removed from the bones. The secondary burial is when the bones are collected to be painted and then dispersed in multiple ways.
