Hodgenville, KY

  • February 12,1809 Lincoln was born
  • Stayed there until he was two

CHILDHOOD

  • Lincoln had a sister named Sarah (was known as Sally)
  • His parents were Nancy and Tom Lincoln
  • He lived in a one room log cabin
  • He was the second child

TEENAGE YEARS

  • Grew very tall and strong
  • Abe worked with his neighbors and other business people
  • At the age of 22, he packed a few things and moved to The new Salem, Illinois
  • Abe rarely talked about his family background
  • When Tom Lincoln died in 1851, Abe did not attend the funeral

ADULT LIFE

  • Abe moved to Springfield Illinois
  • Met Mary and ended up getting married
  • Has four kids, Robert Todd, Edward Baker, William Wallace, and Thomas

PRESIDENT LIFE

  • Built the Republican Party into a strong national orginzation
  • Declared the slaves forever free with the Confederacy
  • Rallied most of the Northern Democrats to the Union cause

FORD'S THEATER

  • Lincoln decided to watch a play with his wife Mary
  • A person named John Wilkes Booth ended shooting Lincoln
  • Was shot in the back of the head
  • Was carried out across the street

The Petersen House

  • Was carried out to the back of the house
  • Was put down diagonally on the bed
  • Died at 7:22 the next morning

SPRINGFIELD ILLINOIS

  • Died on April 15, 1865
  • Died at the age of 56
  • He was buried in the in the Oak Bridge Cemetery

THE LINCOLN MEMORIAL

  • Was to honor the 16th president
  • The exterior was a classic Greek Temple
  • Had the names of the 36 states above the Colonnade in the Union at the time
  • Above this the 48 states present of the Memorial's Dedication
