LINCOLN’S GOAL

  • He wanted to end slavery
  • He promised slavery where it already existed
  • He believed the country couldn’t survive if the north and south were different

HIS CONFLICTS

  • He believed that a great obstacle would come his way if he wanted to end slavery
  • He knew that nearly half of the country disagreed with his beliefs
  • “In my opinion, it will not cease, until a crisis shall have been reached, and passed.”

DURING THE WAR

  • Abraham knew that the only way he could end slavery was through war
  • He believed that the union would not be overcome, and they could win the war successfully
  • “It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.”

WHAT HAPPENED AT THE END?

  • Lincoln and the union won the Civil War.
  • Lincoln completed his journey for slaves’ freedom successfully.
  • Reconstruction began for America after Lincoln passed.
