What he did?

  • He was an Andalusian physician.
  • He was considered to be the greatest surgeon in the Islamic medical traditions.

Important Invention

  • His greatest contribution to history was the Kitab al-Tasrif.
  • It was thirty volume collection of medical practice.

Created an Encyclopedia

  • Al-Tasrif was an illustrated encyclopedic. Of medicine and surgery in 1500 Pages.

What the book contains....

  • the earliest pictures of surgical instruments in history.
  • at least 200 of the pictures are illustrated and described.
  • His last book (book 30) was his most famous book and had the greatest influence.

Different aspects of surgery...

  • Formed it into different branches; ophthalmology, diseases of the ear, nose, and throat.
  • Also surgery of the neck and head, to general surgeries.
  • Military medicine, urology, and orthopedic surgery.

  • He divided the surgery section into three parts; 1. on cauterization (56 sections) 2. on surgery (97 sections) 3. on orthopedics (35 sections).

  • He was know as the greatest surgeons of medieval Islam, but also are very good educationist and psychiatrist.
