CALCIUM HYDROXIDE

  • Ca(OH)2
  • A soluble white crystal commonly produced in the form of slaked slime
  • Physical properties: amorphous powder, sparingly soluble in water, weakly basic
  • Chemical properties: When heated above 580 degrees C, slaked lime gets decomposed into oxides, absorbs carbon dioxide from the air to produce calcium carbonate, the limewater turns milky.
  • Hazards: health, flammability, reactivity
