ACID-BASE PROJECT

BY: MEGAN HARDY

ACID: VINEGAR

  • It's main acid is acetic acid
  • It's chemical formula is C2H4O2
  • It's melting point is from 16 to 17 degrees Celcius
  • Its boiling point is from118 to 119 degrees Celcius
  • Its acidity is 4.76
  • Concentrated acetic acid is very corrosive
  • It helps keep the flies off of horses
  • You can use it in many ways around the house
  • The only hazards with it is do not get it in your eyes

ACID: CAR BATTERY

  • It contains sulfuric acid.
  • Its chemical formula is H2SO4
  • It is colorless and can only be in a liquid state.
  • It is odorless and has a sour taste.
  • It is also extremely corrosive to skin and body tissues.
  • The boiling point is 348 degrees Celcius.
  • The melting point is anywhere between 10-15 degrees Celcius.
  • It is soluble in water and it is a non conductor of electricity.
  • This acid helps cars run by starting the engine so that the car will run.
  • Do not touch this acid because it is extremely corrosive.

BASE: BAKING SODA

  • Its main ingredient is sodium bicarbonate ( NaC2).
  • The melting point is at 60 degrees Celsius.
  • It is soluble in water and is white and odorless.
  • It is a weak base which weakly ionizes in water.
  • When in a reaction with an acid it liberates carbon dioxide.
  • When cooking baking soda releases carbon dioxide making the baked item "rise".
  • It is a very good cooking item seeing as it rises and that lets us know when it is done.
  • One hazard that goes with baking soda is do not eat it.

BASE: SOAP

  • Soap contains either potassium hydroxide or sodium hydroxide (KOH or NaOH).
  • The melting point is at 318.4 degrees Celsius
  • The boiling point is at 1390 degrees Celsius.
  • It is soluble in water and is stable under ordinary conditions.
  • Soap helps us get clan and it also gives us sodium back into our body and also potassium.
  • A hazard with soap is do not get into your eyes and do not eat it.
