Crucible Act IV Summary
Act IV starts on a fall day in 1962. This is the day that John Proctor and Rebecca Nurse are sentenced to be hanged. With so many people in jail the town is in disarray. Pleading to witchcraft would save the lives of those that were sentenced to being hanged. Proctor admits that he had made a deal with the devil and that he had used his powers to harm people. Proctor refused to snitch on the other people he had seen making deals with the devil. After proctor hesitantly signs the transcription of his confession, he refuses to give it back to Danforth. Proctor then tears it up and is hanged.
