Native American culture is key to learning more about our past and better understanding the origins of our society. Native Americans helped to shape the future culture and society of America today, and without them, we lack a serious diverse and interesting aspect of society that they would have filled. Using the source titled “How the loss of Native American languages affects our understanding of the natural world” The evidence provided will give an example of how a lack Native American culture and affects us and the society we are apart of.

Through many aspects of Native American culture we would have been able to better understand the world without us, we could use their knowledge gained over centuries of learning. The site state previously gives one example of this and that would be their language; “Embedded in indigenous languages (…) is knowledge about ecosystems, conservational methods, plant life, animal behavior and many other aspects of the natural world” (LaPier 4). With this time gathered information, which is gathered using their cultural methods and practices, we could have learned so many things about the world around us that we currently lack. However, with the loss of Indian culture, much of those old traditions and information is lost.

Native Americans, before colonizers came, used ancient cultural rituals and centuries worth of trial and error gained info to help them to better understand nature. This is clearly shown through their ability to track, and hunt animals with perfection and also while not wasting anything they captured or killed. This is also seen through their understanding of ho nature works in which they used to constantly supply themselves with food, shelter, and help them get through the most difficult of challenges. The Indian’s cultural advancement led them to survive and coexist with one and nature another. That is something we all should take notice of and realize that in today’s society we lack the unity that many of these tribes had because we lack their cultural bonds and maybe if we took the time to learn more about them, we could advance and become more culturally advanced.

Their language, according to the site, is important for us in many ways and can also help us understand and also help us to see the small details that we would miss without those languages; “Words in indigenous languages can have cultural meanings, that can be lost during translation (…) the subtle differences can often shift one’s perspective about how indigenous people thought about the natural world” (La Pier 8). Without the languages and their meanings, we lose that aspect and definition that may be different than those given by other languages and that which may have helped us in some way or form.

To sum up, this source talks about how Native American’s language and it uniqueness could, and should be used today and would be a great service to those seeking information on nature and the world around us. It also talks about how the Indians used their language and other cultural based ideals to advance and become an advanced people. We should take note of their advancements and apply that to our society today and maybe we can form a more bonded society.
