In the article "Jealousy" from GoodTherapy.org, the author argues, "Jealousy is often an overwhelming feeling of insecurity about a potential loss or inequity in distribution of resources (1)." The article states that jealousy will "provoke anger and resentment (1)" in a person. Anger is already a very strong feeling, and jealousy alone is able to cause that overwhelming sensation in us. Jealousy can be experienced in any type of relationship and intense jealousy can eventually get in the way of everyday life.

In the novel, Dick Diver grows insanely jealous of Rosemary because he is so infatuated with her. Although they both claim it is love, it is an unhealthy relationship because they are having an affair. At first, it isn't a problem for Dick to control his emotions, but as the story progresses, jealousy soon take over all that he feels. It eventually leads to his self-destruction and loss of both his wife and Rosemary.
