Inattention is the condition of having a difficult time maintaining focus on a task or presentation, and being easily distracted.

Types of ADHD

Those diagnosed with ADHD typically fit into one of three categories.
1. Inattentive Type
2. Impulsive Type
3. Combined Type

Where the inattentive and impulsive types often are emblematic of their associated symptoms, the combined type can show a mix of any and all symptoms.

Tips for teaching students with ADHD

- Give students clear directions that help them anticipate the lesson
- Provide checklists and visual cues
- Use a timer to help students stay on task

Do not forget to ask students what helps them. This can be the most important facet of teaching a student with ADHD.

Use positioning to your advantage! Keep students with ADHD close to your desk and away from windows and doors where distractions are more likely to occur.

Vary the speed of lessons, and use different kinds of activities to keep students engaged in the lesson. Use props, charts and videos when appropriate.

Allow students with ADHD to use stress relievers like rubber balls or grips. Allow them frequent breaks where possible.
