Inattentive Presentation: Trouble organizing and finishing tasks. Easily distracted. Doesn’t pay attention to details or instructions.

Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive Presentation: Fidgets and talks a lot. Can’t sit still. Always climbing, jumping, or running. Interrupts others. Injects and blurts. Very accident prone.

CONTROVERSY

  • Over diagnosis
  • Under diagnosis
  • Parents pushing too hard for a diagnosis
  • No physical test or single cause for ADHD
  • Who can draw the line between normal and difficult behavior?
  • Increase in technology has caused short attention spans.
  • ADHD services are underfunded and overloaded.

QUESTIONS

  • What do you consider normal behavior and difficult behavior?
  • Are electronics the main cause for increase in ADHD?
  • What are your thoughts on medication for ADHD? What about only medicating during the school year?
