- Academically challenging environment
- Encourages high student achievement and accountability
- Allows students to collaborate with other gifted students
- Can include high-achieving students
- Does not cost any extra money

- High-achieving students not selected may stop trying
- Gifted students may need more support in the area of advanced content, so they are unable to attend
- Too many students in one group
