CLIMATE ZONES OF AFRICA

  • Three types of climate zones:
  • Desert- northern and southern part of Africa
  • Savannah- between desert and rainforest
  • Rainforest- center of continent

SAVANNAH

  • Grassy plains
  • Good for raising livestock
  • Irregular periods of rainfall
  • Between rainforest and desert

RAINFOREST

  • Dense forest with biodiversity
  • Found in tropical areas
  • Consistently heavy rainfall
  • Mainly in central Africa

SAHARA DESERT

  • Largest desert in the world
  • Northernmost part of Africa

DESERTIFICATION

  • Semi-fertile land gradually became desert land
  • Led to migration of Neolithic people in the area

BANTU MIGRATION

  • The moving of Neolithic people to southern regions
  • Migration patterns can be traced through language patterns
  • Cultures merged where these people settled
  • Bantu was the language that others were derived from.

CULTURAL DIFFUSION

  • Bantu-Speakers spread their skills
  • Cultures merged when people settled.
  • Christianity and Islam eventually spread to Africa

NUBIA

  • I hate you Joe

OUTSIDE FORCES

  • Phoenicians thrive
  • Carthage dominates trade
  • Rome gained land in North Africa
  • Rome made that land its own
