BERLIN CONFERENCE
Established the area as the Congo Free state.
It was held in Berlin between November 15, 1884 and November 26, 1885.
It was a method of dividing the continent of Africa between the European powers.
It ensured that the division of Africa would take place without war.

EUROPEAN IMPERIALSIM
Imperialism is empire building.
European nations had become very powerful because of industrialization.
Imperialism was reborn in the West with the emergence of the modern nation-state and the age of exploration.
From the 15th to the 17th century the Portuguese and the Dutch built "trading empires".

IMPERIALISTIC METHODS
Imperialism is based on the following values:
Strong military
Global denomination
Economical superiors
Nationalistics

END OF COLONIALSIM
In 1942 Japanese troops invaded the Indies and put Duif and other Dutch residents into camps.
In 1948 the Indies became independent Indonesia.
Colonialism declined after World War II.
The colonial period started in 1607 and ended in 1776.

LASTING EFFECTS
It has completely tarnished the rich traditional practices and beliefs of Africans.
French and English speaking countries are finding it difficult to come to a conclusion on issues.
Colonialism has left a severe ethnic division.
Colonialism has divided Africa and created problems for the country to unite under one umbrella government.
