  • Alaska ranks 49 among the states for livestock production
  • ALaska is not a large agricultural state
  • Est. 15 million acres of soil is suitable for farming in Alaska
  • Agriculture makes up around 1% of Alaska's economy

HISTORY OF AGRICULTURE

  • Alaska's main businesses:cultivating soil, fishing, hunting ect.
  • Alaska also had traders, missionsries, and started to farm.
  • Then ferderal officials slowly started to encourage agricultures.

  • Fox farms slowly started to disappear in the 1920s.
  • Commercial farmingin Alaska started to develop over time.
  • The government starts an agriculture colony all over Alaska.

CURRENT AGRICULTURE IN ALASKA

  • Not much farming due to climate and short growing season
  • Location-Matsu Valley and Kenai Peninsula
  • Surge of agricultural growth

  • Less than 5% of the food is produced locally
  • Foreign farming inductries are getting more involved
