ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

  • Ahmose is most known for defeating the Hyksos, but he also reunified Egypt.
  • Ahmose I captured more territory and started the New Kingdom, under which Egyptian power peaked.
  • He reorganized the tax system, repaired canals and irrigation systems, and reopened quarries, mines, and trade routes.
  • Reviving monumental constructions and the arts, he also had a cenotaph built in Abydos, a very sacred city
  • Honoring the god Amun, he enlarged the temple in Thebes which set an example for future rulers and started the rise of Amun above other gods.

Ahmose benefited Egypt because he completed the conquest and expulsion of the Hyksos from the delta region, restored Theban rule over the whole of Egypt and successfully reasserted Egyptian power in its formerly subject territories of Nubia and Canaan.
