"Unfortunately, the air conditioning only makes the heat wave worse. Coal-fired electric plants feed all that cooling. Believe it or not there are those of us alive who remember when there was no air conditioning." —Richard Carlson
"Not any different then it was when I was growing up. Turn on a fan, or find a shady tree and drink lots of water. We, as a nation, are spoiled beyond belief." —Rusty Roy
As you can see, before air conditioning people would find other means of cooling down, but now we are relying on the use of air conditioners to keep us cool above anything else.
Europe is remaining relatively unchanged by air conditioning. The general climate for the continent is cooler therefore they are less dependent on air conditioning and a continent like Australia is. Europe is also trying to remain environmentally friendly. This results in less use of plastic bags and air conditioners.
The increase of air conditioner use in Australia has brought more issues with global warming to the region. Australians have become more dependent on the air conditioners. There has been a 70% increase in electricity prices from 2007 to 2012. They have become much more dependent on the use of air conditioners.
"Air-conditioning sales are growing 20 percent a year in China and India, as middle classes grow, units become more affordable and temperatures rise with climate change. The potential cooling demands of upwardly mobile Mumbai, India, alone have been estimated to be a quarter of those of the United States." -Elisabeth Rosenthal on June 20, 2012
People in Asia have become extremely dependent on air conditioners, like in Australia. In 1987 the Montreal Protocol was put into place to regulate gas produced by air conditioning and to protect the ozone layer.
Air conditioning in South America is like the air-conditioning from all the other different continents. They are becoming dependent on it from all the heat. Though air conditioning is more scarce here. Some hotels even advertise air-conditioning to bring more guests.
Air conditioning is causing major issues with global warming, Obama even made a statement regarding what he felt would happen if Africans were given more air conditioning and other things. "South Africa, President Obama said the planet would boil if people in Africa were allowed to have air conditioning, cars and big houses, CNS News reported Monday."
The thought is that people are becoming so dependent on air conditioning that the more we deal it out the more gases will be produced and global warming will become more of an issue.
