PRESENTATION OUTLINE

AIRBAGS

By: Brandon Romano

What they're made of:
-The bag itself is made of a thin, nylon fabric then which is compacted into the steering wheel, dashboard, and the side of the car.

Location:
-Most airbags are not visible. There are airbags at the front of the dashboard and the center of the steering wheel. Also many vehicles have airbags along the side of the car!

Other Materials:
- A crash sensors is a small piece of an electronic that is used to tell when the car has been in an accident. They react to many things like, sudden stopping.

Inflation System:
In order for the airbag to fill up with air, Sodium Azide(NaN3) must react with Potassium Nitrate(KNO3) to produce nitrogen gas, then hot blasts of nitrogen fill up the bag.

Conclusion:
-When someone gets in an accident, it alarms the crash sensor which then makes the air bag fill up with air very quickly and go off because of a chemical reaction, which protects you in an accident.

Fun Facts:
-Cars use the Law Of Motion! We know that moving objects have momentum. Unless an outside force acts on an object, the object will continue to move at its present speed and direction so therefore, the airbags prevent you from flying through the windshield and/or windows!!!
