LEGAL AGE TO DRINK

  • US- age 21
  • UK- age 18
  • Punishment- large fines
  • Suspended liscence
  • Arrest/prison

DRUNK DRIVING

  • Is illegal
  • Leading cause of death in US for 15-20 year olds
  • 40% of those aged 16-19 killed in drunk accidents were passengers

UK DRINKING LIMIT

  • 80 milligrammes per 100 milliliters of blood
  • 35 micrograms per 100 milliliters of breath
  • 107 milligrammes per 100 milliliters of urine

THE NATIONAL MINIMUM DRINKING AGE ACT

  • Signed in 1984
  • Signed by President Reagan
  • Required all states to have minimum age to drink of 21

  • By 1988, all states adopted new law
  • After new law, alcohol related accidents decreased
