Alfred Binet

- July 8 1857 Nice, France - October 18 1911 Paris, France.
-Father: physician and mother: artist.
-Passion for art and literature at a young age, wrote plays.
-Parents divorced
-Study doctorate law in Paris with his mother

-Development of children (specifically his daughters, Madeline and Alice).
-Corresponds with study of cognition in children.
-Famous work on the topic of intelligence.
-Spent time on child study and experimental teaching.
-Explored functionalism.

-Binet and assistant Theodore Simon created the ‘Binet -Simon Intelligence Scale’.
-A series of tests designed to assess mental abilities in children.
-Results are focused on mental abilities like attention and memory.

-Intelligence scales serve as the basis for modern IQ tests. -Test helped define the differences between children of different mental capacities.
-To help find children who have trouble coping with the school curriculum.
