It was difficult to supply food to so many men in so many places
They didn't have the food system ready in enough time to give the food to the armies.
They didn't have many ways to keep the food from rotting

Every thing was uncooked so the soldiers had to cook it
Small group would often gather together to cook
If a March was long the men would cook everything at once.

The group name was Mess.
They called each other mess mates.

SOME SOLDERS WEEVLIES IN THIER CRACKERS!
The solider called the the hardtack worm castles because of the bugs.
The bugs boarded holes through the crackers.
The crackers had bugs because the crackers were stacked outside of the tents and warehouses.

SOMETIMES THEY HAVE NICKNAMES FOR THIER FOOD.
They called poorly preserved meat " salt horse."
They called hardtack " tooth dullers" and " sheet iron crackers."
They called crumbled hardtack on salted pork "silly galley."
