Slide Notes
The daughter of perpetually travelling parents, I grew up in a variety of international settings, with travel exposing me to the impact of technology on a global scale from an early age. These experiences molded my interest in the possibilities of teaching to diverse and, at times, geographically dispersed groups, through the use of technology.
A nurse by profession, I entered academia in 1991 in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the Australian Catholic University (ACU). Integrating my love of all things technical into teaching and learning, I was appointed the National Online Education Coordinator for ACU in 1999. In this role I coordinated the online educational arm for an international and domestic audience.
In 2003, I commenced as the curriculum designer for the University of Queensland’s inaugural undergraduate Bachelor of Nursing program. I then returned to ACU in the role of National Coordinator of online teaching and learning; currently I am the Faculty of Arts and Sciences eLearning Coordinator, focusing on quality eLearning pedagogy.
In 2010 I was awarded an Australian Learning and Teaching Council citation for my sustained enthusiasm and expertise in leadership through early adoption of the web, and staff development for quality online education. I am keen to continue to improve the quality of the student learning experience through the balance between knowledge creation and teaching design.
