Hi, my name is Rhys and I am 6 years old. I have been in the Innavators club for 2 years. I am going to tell you about dogs.

History of Dogs

  • Swedish geneticist Pontus Skoglund concluded that dogs may have become domesticated between 27,000 to 40,000 years ago!
  • Modern day domesticated dogs originated in China, the Middle East and Eastern Europe.

  • Wolves were attracted to humans because they could scavenge for leftover food.
  • They started traveling with humans and domestication began.

  • They can comprehend 250 words and count up to 5.
  • Akbash and Basenji are the most silent dogs.
  • Dogs are also called man's best friend.

  • The oldest fossilized remains of a pet dog dates back 33,000 years. It was discovered in Siberia in the 1970s.
  • Dogs are not colorblind. They can see color, just not as many as humans.

Training Steps

  • Break the trick down into smaller steps.
  • Work on each step until the dog can do it right.
  • Put the steps together to perform the trick.

How to use a clicker

  • First you should do clicker loading. Clicker loading is teaching a dog to know a click = treat.
  • You click to mark the behavior you want your dog to do and reward with a treat.
  • When your dog can do the trick fade-out using the clicker and treats.
